Jio Phone is a smart feature phone offered by Reliance Jio in India. It was originally announced back in July 2017 at the 40th annual general meeting of Reliance Industries Limited. The pre-orders for Jio phone started in August 2017 and the phone first went on the sale in September 2017. It was targeted to feature phone users who don’t want or can’t upgrade to smartphones. Key features of Jio Phone include 4G LTE support, QVGA screen, KaiOS with an app store, and HD voice support.

Jio Phone price was originally set at Rs. 1,500, all of which was refundable if you used the phone for three years. The price has since been reduced and it is now offered for as low as Rs. 699 and Jio bundles offers with Rs. 693 with every purchase. The Jio Phone is sold via Jio stores, Reliance Digital store, e-retailers, and third-party outlets in the country. The company no longer seems to be selling it from its own website. Reports indicate that Jio Phone is seeing some stock troubles, so you may not find at every single store around you.

Jio Phone is a single SIM smartphone and in terms of design, it sports the blocky standard feature phone look. It carries a small screen, a numeric keypad, a D pad, and four other buttons for navigation and calls. The screen size is 2.4-inch and it has a resolution of 240×320 pixels. Additionally, on the front, there is a VGA front camera for selfies and an earpiece is also present.
On the back, the phone is pretty bland and includes a 2-megapixel camera as well as a loudspeaker. The back cover can be removed and inside you will find a 2,000mAh battery that is also removable. The company claims the battery can provide 15 days of standby time. Apart from battery, there is a single SIM card slot and a microSD card inside. On the bottom, you will find a Micro-USB port and a 3.5mm audio jack for connecting headphones or speakers. The company has also included a torch on the top. Reliance Jio bundles a Micro-USB cable, a wall charger, and SIM card with the phone.
Jio Phone is powered by dual-core processor made by Qualcomm or Spreadtrum. Additionally, there is 512MB of RAM and 4GB of internal storage. Only 1GB of the internal storage is available for consumers. 1GB is reserved for apps and rest for system functions. The phone supports microSD cards of up to 128GB.
For wireless connectivity, Jio Phone comes with Wi-Fi, Bluetooth support, and 4G LTE. You can only use Jio SIM card with the phone. In terms of software, Jio Phone runs on KaiOS. It is a fork of now-defunct Firefox OS and supports Web and JAVA apps. WhatsApp Messenger, Facebook, Google Assistant, and other popular apps are available for Jio Phone. There is an app store onboard as well for downloading more applications.
Reliance Jio pre-installs a number of its own apps and other useful stuff in the Jio Phone. You will get MyJio, JioGames, JioSaavn, JioTV, JioRail, JioPay, JioCinema, and JioVideoCall. Lastly, you will get FM Radio support. Jio also offers a JioMediaCable that can be used to connect the Jio Phone to a TV to stream content.
Jio Phone supports 22 Indic languages, including Hindi, Marathi, Gujarati, and Bangla, and phone’s interface can be accessed in all supported languages.
